Untitled Entry

So I’ve been writing these entries in google docs up until now (as I do with most of my documents), but my intention is to eventually share my writing with the wider web, and as such I’m going to need a website. I’m not writing about this since building a website isn’t an issue, after all you (yes, you!) are reading this on this hypothetical website right now, but rather how I want the website to look, what I want it to embody.

This post will act as my reference point in constructing the website it will be hosted on, which I find to be a very interesting concept.

Vibe check:

A website purpose-built to share one’s thoughts is an inherently self-interested project no matter what way you cut it, and so I’ve decided to go all the way. I really want to carve out my own little corner on the internet in a more established way than up until now.

As I have mentioned countless times, this whole project is

Cool features I’d like to work on:

Live recently watched/listened feed

I’ve been into tracking media consumption since I got started on MAL way back in the dawn of the last decade. I think the idea of being able to check what a person is watching / listening / reading is one of few aspects of “social media” that I think highly of, and being able to incorporate that feels like a must. In more concrete terms, I want to integrate my anilist, goodreads, spotify, steam, etc. accounts into a live feed that updates automatically and is viewable somewhere on-site.

A browsable mirror of my anki deck that is preferably updated daily/weekly

This one isn't super important, but I think it'd be cool.

A browsable review corner

I want to share my opinions on media, and so I’d like to try having a review corner of sorts. I care less about trying to rate things numerically, and more trying to classify and quantify things based on how I experience them. I’m not sure if it’s normal, but I tend to make connections between media and physical spaces, people, and specific memories. Like for example, whenever I listen to Sam Roberts - Lo-Fantasy (2014), an involuntary response is fired off somewhere in my brain whose sole purpose is to dredge up deep memories of me reading The World God Only Knows on my 4th generation iPod touch in the living room, which also reminds me of my first time watching the music video for でんぱ組.inc「ノットボッチ...夏」 (Which I am now relistening to). Given enough time commitment, I think it’d be interesting to map the weird and complex network of relations I’ve built up.
